Diversity and representation in media is a topic near and dear to our hearts. After seeing the #SupportPOCPods hashtag on Twitter last week, we were inspired to discuss why it’s important now more than ever to have a diverse spectrum of storytellers in media, especially in podcasting.

This is The Millennial Hour.

XOXO,

Steph & Ash

As an alumna, Steph chats about the impact these types of incidents have on past, present and future students.

Gilmore Girls made its triumphant return to Netflix last week and it was too much too handle. SPOILER ALERT: we talk about the final four words of the last episode, and how Amy Sherman-Palladino’s writing is everything we could have asked for in the revival.

Shifting gears, we get into the powerful student protests that have taken place over the past week since America’s new President-elect was chosen. Everyone is tiredddd of Trump’s nonstop shenanigans. This past weekend an audio file from 2005 was released, where the presidential candidate was recorded saying some disrespectful and derogatory things about sexually assaulting women. The same day, author Kelly Oxford tweeted her first assault, and encouraged her followers to share their stories – which led to an outpouring of thousands of responses. We discuss why it is so important to address sexual assault in our society, and the need for both genders to speak out about it in order for real change to happen.

According to a survey mentioned in a recent Wall Street Journal article, Millennial women express  more ambition than women of previous generations, but are facing the same wage gaps and struggles to get ahead in the corporate world.
