Episode 47: Protests & Pressure

Greetings Millies! We’re back on the mic’s this week after a quick break. Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock was named People Magazine’s 2016 Sexiest Man Alive – we chat briefly on what makes him “sexy” and an overall good role model.

Shifting gears, we get into the powerful student protests that have taken place over the past week since America’s new President-elect was chosen. While the youth often get a bad rap for being lazy, glued-to-an-iPhone narcissists, we share how their recent public action combats generational stereotypes at a time when unity is needed the most.

Take some freakin’ action people and fight for what you believe in! We express the importance of supporting organizations like Refugee Rights, and subscribing to a newspaper or donating to ProPublica to keep trustworthy journalism alive.

Has dating become hopeless? A Rolling Stone article published yesterday explores the awkward, in-between space many Millennials are currently in as we try to achieve personal intimacy in the age of social media and internet dating. We give our favorite takeaways from the piece and our hopes for the future of relationships.

This is The Millennial Hour.

XOXO,

Steph & Ash

Episode 40: Anthems & #Aubrih

Welcome back #TMH listeners! This week, we tackle the controversy surrounding the San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand during the playing of the national anthem. We discuss how his race, upbringing, and his NFL platform all play into him taking a stand against police brutality in the U.S., and how social media reacted to his actions.

The 2016 MTV VMA’s did not disappoint this year – with four different stunning Rihanna performances, a 16-minute Beyonce show and an obnoxious Kanye rant, it was undoubtedly an entertaining night. We share our (Ashley’s) obsession with the birth of #AubRih and why Drake presenting Rihanna with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award was the cutest moment in the history of the VMA’s.

Do nice guys always finish last? We chat about the patience many Millennials lack when it comes to finding “the one”, and the need to stay away from the Chris Brown’s and wait for your Drake.

This is The Millennial Hour.

XOXO,

Steph & Ash

Episode 26: Legacies + Lemonade

Welcome back lovelies! The past week has been filled with a roller coaster of emotions. The world mourned Prince – who transitioned last Thursday, after bringing us decades of timeless music and an unmatched influence on pop culture. His death left a sour taste in the mouths of generations who have worshipped his music, but he leaves a legacy for today’s artists like Justin Timberlake and Miguel.

A couple days later, Beyoncé released her much anticipated visual album, #LEMONADE, reminding us of her own legacy she continues to wow us with. We talk about her perfectly crafted artistic videos that grabbed our attention the most.

The album was filled with an overflow of emotional expression – emotions that many Millennials are often too busy to address within themselves. We discuss how we each emotionally detox, and the importance of taking a moment to re-focus.

This is The Millennial Hour.

XOXO,

Steph & Ash

Episode 18: #Grammys2016 + Modern Love

This week we talk #Grammys2016. In between underwhelming appearances and performances, Kendrick Lamar reminded us why he deserved the Best Rap Album of the Year award, while Justin Bieber reminded everyone why they should be Beliebers.

Love was in the air. This holiday weekend we spent some time with our loves and talked about why it was particularly special.

A recent article outlined ‘Why Modern Love Relationships Are Falling Apart So Easily Today’. We shared some of our thoughts on how relationships are different with our generation.

This is the Millennial Hour.

Episode 4: When Words Matter

Welcome back beauties! This week, we discuss R&B singer August Alsina feeling up a woman who he brought on stage and the latest in Ben Carson’s controversy. Also – texting back an Ex when you’re in a new relationship – good or bad idea? When that hotline bling, does it really only mean one thing? With texting being one of the main forms of everyday communication, this subject can get very sticky, very fast.

Plus, as nineties babies, it was only right that we attend DC’s 90s Bar Crawl this past weekend. Steph went for the Aaliyah look while Ash channeled her inner Spice Girl. We even ran into Pikachu and Charlamander while bar hopping! It was all that and a bag of chips! 🙂  Check out some pics below and make sure to share your thoughts in the comments section:
