Episode 40: Anthems & #Aubrih

Welcome back #TMH listeners! This week, we tackle the controversy surrounding the San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand during the playing of the national anthem. We discuss how his race, upbringing, and his NFL platform all play into him taking a stand against police brutality in the U.S., and how social media reacted to his actions.

The 2016 MTV VMA’s did not disappoint this year – with four different stunning Rihanna performances, a 16-minute Beyonce show and an obnoxious Kanye rant, it was undoubtedly an entertaining night. We share our (Ashley’s) obsession with the birth of #AubRih and why Drake presenting Rihanna with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award was the cutest moment in the history of the VMA’s.

Do nice guys always finish last? We chat about the patience many Millennials lack when it comes to finding “the one”, and the need to stay away from the Chris Brown’s and wait for your Drake.

This is The Millennial Hour.

Steph & Ash

Episode 28: A Chat with Emma Roller

Emma Roller

This week we sat down to chat with the DC-based journalist and fellow Millennial Emma Roller of The New York Times, who shared what it’s like working her dream job, how writing about the 2016 election has been a reporting roller coaster, and why her, and many Millennial women, battle with ‘imposter syndrome’.

“Everyone is going through something, even people who seem like they have their whole lives figured out.”

We also talked a bit about #Bey (of course we couldn’t avoid it!). Emma’s current pop culture obsession is #Lemonade – for many reasons, but mainly because of the political influence of the project. “You can’t call yourself a politics junkie and not know anything about Beyonce, because she is a big political figure of this time,” she says.

Listen above now to hear more from our conversation!

Episode 26: Legacies + Lemonade

Welcome back lovelies! The past week has been filled with a roller coaster of emotions. The world mourned Prince – who transitioned last Thursday, after bringing us decades of timeless music and an unmatched influence on pop culture. His death left a sour taste in the mouths of generations who have worshipped his music, but he leaves a legacy for today’s artists like Justin Timberlake and Miguel.

A couple days later, Beyoncé released her much anticipated visual album, #LEMONADE, reminding us of her own legacy she continues to wow us with. We talk about her perfectly crafted artistic videos that grabbed our attention the most.

The album was filled with an overflow of emotional expression – emotions that many Millennials are often too busy to address within themselves. We discuss how we each emotionally detox, and the importance of taking a moment to re-focus.

This is The Millennial Hour.

XOXO,

Steph & Ash

Episode 25: Hot Sauce in Her Bag (Swag?)

Happy hump-day #TMH listeners! This week we start of by asking the pressing question the ENTIRE #Bey universe has – where is the new Beyonce album?! As her HBO docu-style special premieres this Saturday and her #Formation tour soon begins, we express our anticipation for her 2016 album.

Speaking of Beyonce, Hillary Clinton let everyone know this week that she carries hot sauce in her bag (swag?) – we chat about her controversial Breakfast Club interview in NYC and how some believe she is ‘pandering for black votes.’

Hillary’s nemesis, Bernie Sanders, seems to be loved by America’s #Millennials in this election, according to a recent TIME article. We reflect on what attracts our generation to his presidential campaign, and how it differs from campaigns of the past.

Episode 17: Beyon[slay] & The Big Easy

Hi #TMH listeners! Welcome back. This week we get into Beyonce mode – she wowed us all this past weekend by dropping the controversial video to her new single ‘Formation‘ 24 hours before her groundbreaking Superbowl 50 performance. Yes yes yes, give us more Beyon[slay].

While Beyonce’s music video took place in post-Katrina New Orleans, Ashley was headed to The Big Easy for #MardiGras2016 – she shares her favorite Mardi Gras and foodie moments from her trip down south. (See pics below!)

What defines a Millennial? The Pew Research Center released a new quiz for individuals to take and assess how ‘Millennial’ they are. Apparently we are a confident generation of optimists, creatives and visionaries (whoop whoop!).

Thanks for tuning in!

Labor Day Recap: Made In America 2015

IMG_3861

As summer is wrapping up, I (Steph) decided to check one more thing off my bucket list and attend a full-fledged music festival. Here are my top five best, and worst, moments during my experience at Jay Z’s Made in America Festival 2015.

  1. WORST: Overcrowding.

image1 (2)

Jay Z, you sold wayyyyy too many tickets to this event. There were entirely too many people, which took away from the experience.

  1. BEST: Getting almost front row views of The Weeknd’s performance.

image2 (1)

It definitely took standing in the hot sun all day, but it was worth every minute.

  1. WORST: Smells.

Which for the most part were disgusting and unidentifiable.

  1. BEST: Meek Mill bringing his boo Nicki on stage.

From what I heard, Nicki was the best part of the Meek Mill performance.

  1. WORST: Food.

IMG_3837

The food was horrible, but then again, it’s a festival soooooo I can’t complain too much.

  1. BEST: Staying in downtown Philly.

This was by far the best decision I could have made location-wise. Staying close to the venue and train station was a life saver after long festival days. Not to mention we got upgraded to a suite room!!

  1. WORST: The nightlife scene.

image1 (1)

It was kinda weak. Even being in the heart of downtown Philly. But for all my Ohio State friends, I found another Insomnia Cookies!

  1. BEST: Making new friends.

image2

When your 2 inches away from the people around you for 6+ hours, you’re bound to make a couple of friends! Here’s to all of you who sustained my armpit sweat.

1.WORST:  Closing Headlining with The Weeknd rather than Beyoncé

Beyoncé should have ended the concert. Reason? Because she is Beyoncé. Who better to end a festival?

  1. BEST: BEYONCE!!

Her performance was flawless. All hail Queen Bey!! And not to mention her man Jay Z was supporting in the crowd.

XOXO,

Steph
