Episode 49: Publicity & Podcasting

Welcome back Millies! We hope our east coast listeners are staying warm on these brutally cold days, it’s very burr.

Kanye West is at it again with his attention seeking shenanigans – earlier this week the musician was seen at the Trump Tower in New York for a mysterious meeting with president-elect Donald Trump. We share our thoughts (and disappointment) in what some are calling a publicity stunt.

Diversity and representation in media is a topic near and dear to our hearts. After seeing the #SupportPOCPods hashtag on Twitter last week, we were inspired to discuss why it’s important now more than ever to have a diverse spectrum of storytellers in media, especially in podcasting.

This is The Millennial Hour.

Episode 38: Love & Other Drugs

Happy hump-day! As the 2016 Olympics continue in Rio, we give our thoughts on the controversial – and offensive – news coverage that a few USA female champions have received, and the dire need for diversity in all newsrooms.

Social media has its pros and cons, and celebrities often face some of the harshest backlash for what they choose to share on their profiles. We chat about what stirred up Twitter’s #SelenaEndedJustinBieberParty, and how other Hollywood couples in the limelight sometimes choose to put a little too much on their Instagram and Snapchat.

The social media world also presents us Millennials with a constant Facebook feed of new engagements, baby announcements, weddings and other life-changing news. We share what personal relationship pressures we’ve faced and how the internet offers only a narrow view of others’ realities.

This is The Millennial Hour.

XOXO,

Steph & Ash

Episode 35: Taylor, Trump and Twenty-Five

Welcome back lovelies! Sunday night, Kim Kardashian posted a video of Kanye’s phone call with Taylor Swift about his record ‘Famous’ – a song Taylor’s team had labeled offensive and misogynistic upon its release a few months ago. The Snapchat video shows a cordial conversation between the two, with Taylor saying – “I really appreciate you telling me about it. That’s really nice,” she says. “It’s all very tongue-in-cheek either way.” We discuss Twitter’s reaction and our views on the #KimExposedTaylorParty.

The Republican National Convention began this week and so far, it is living up to its hype. Melania Trump’s speech at the RNC seems to have almost exact similarities to Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention in 2008. We talk about what went wrong and how Mrs. Trump’s speech made it past the editor’s room.

Although the term ‘Millennials’ encapsulates a broad range of ages, our particular focus this week is on the mid-twenty-something’s. As Ashley’s birthday approaches and the first quarter-century of our lives drifts away, we chat about some of the ways to deal with becoming a real grown-up.

This is The Millennial Hour.

XOXO,

Episode 32: Freedom, Freedom, Where Are You?

Welcome back! This past Sunday night, actor and activist Jesse Williams delivered a powerful speech at the 2016 BET Awards as he received the Humanitarian Award. We share our favorite quotes from this pivotal “woke” moment, as he reminded us that #BlackLivesMatter goes far beyond a hashtag.

Last week, the United Kingdom made one of the most historic political votes we’ve seen in decades – to leave the European Union. We discuss how the shocking #Brexit decision will negatively impact the future of U.K. Millennials.

As the Brexit vote showed us just how much power a vote holds, we emphasize the importance of voting and activism among the Millennial population here in the U.S. – our voice matters now more than ever. Share your thoughts and comments below!

Episode 6: #DemDebate and No Chill

Hello lovelies! This week, we’re giving you a recap of the 2016 Democratic Debate hosted by Anderson Cooper on CNN last night. The candidates discussed everything from #BlackLivesMatter to Benghazi and Gun laws to congressional flaws. It seemed no question was off-limits – except Hillary’s emails. Maybe that’s because ‘The American people are sick and tired of hearing about your damn emails” said Sanders to Hillary. Yeah, we felt the Bern on that one.

While watching the #DemDebate on Twitter, we also discussed how social media has changed television, how it influences opinions on important issues and that it often dictates how long topics stay relevant. Millennials love social watching, it makes it fun and connects you to millions of people, but is it perfect? As Hillary would say, “no, not at all.”

Tell us what you thought of the debate, comment below and follow us on TwitterFacebook.

This is The Millennial Hour.

XOXO
